Plate of scones on a wood table next to coffee cups.

Every morning I sip a cup of coffee on my couch while supervising dog wrestle matches on the rug next to me. Scrolling on Instagram can’t compare to the pure entertainment of watching a growling schnauzer choke hold and take down a full sized labrador. A daily routine that I cherish, as it always begins my day with laughter.

With colder mornings as of late, I’ve been wrapping myself with a blanket for these theatrical coffee sessions. Finally feeling the urge to get cozy, signals to my food brain that its time for fall baking. Let’s start with breakfast! A little pumpkin, breakfast sausage, and cheese with fresh sage sounds pretty good, don’t you think?

Savory scones are basically biscuit’s more fashionable friend, adorned with extra colors and accessories. They’re perfect for making breakfast sandwiches and come together quickly for an easy bake.

This recipe for savory pumpkin scones in contrast to the popular sweet iced pumpkin scone will hopefully become a favorite as well. The combination of pumpkin with gruyere, spicy sausage and sage, with a crunchy pepitas topping ticks quite a few autumn boxes. From start to finish, the entire process takes under an hour, filling your home with the warm aromas of pumpkin bread. Better than an candle :)
